Gabriel Villaran on his freshly hand shaped, hand glassed, hand grabbed tube dialer. Hoping you all get a little pitted this weekend! Aloha! I don't know who shot the photo so let me know if it was you so I can give you credit!

Re: Take 5

Something a little special we cooked up for @cholomode. The Take 5 is an excellent tube hunter under the direction of guys like Gabriel Villaran. With his version we pulled the tail in slightly via the wing to give it a little more bite. Usually the Take 5 is a tri/quad option but we left this one as a quad, knowing its primary purpose is to get pitted! Order yours like Gabriel or anyway you like through our site.

These were the first two boards I made when I arrived back on Maui about a year ago and marked the beginning of this little project we call Figures Of Merit. Here are the first Feelin Good and Take 5 models for my good friends Gregg and Jeanette. Both boards are still cookin as far as I know. As a side note I was also shooting all these first boards for my controlled lighting photography class project at school. Many of the photos on our site are from that project.

Welcome to a late edition of your Wednesday Work In Progress update... At least I think it's Wednesday. No matter. Here are two delectable Feelin' Good step ups. Both were hand shaped custom for our homie @cholomode only yesterday morning and are now on their way to the North Shore for some action at Pipe and Backdoor for the incoming swell. They are 6'6 (teal) and 6'8 (orange) both are 18 5/8 and 2 3/8. Shaped, glasses, sanded, photographed, packed, and shipped by yours truly.

She Flies

She flies... she can handle with the utmost grace and fluidity the movement and improv that comes natural to wave riding. Her response to change is immediate, on key, and on tempo. At first this surprises, then it inspires. Enjoy a Kind Of Blue yourself.

Morning Coffee

After such a weekend, one needs such a cup of coffee. Friday afternoon we couldn't pack fast enough. We were headed for the west side to camp for the weekend on the beach. The first significant south swell had started to roll in the night before and we could see the sets breaking from our cabin on the mountain. We arrived at our destination just before 4 and set up camp. Just out front was a wave I had never seen anyone surf. The area is notoriously sharky, but I couldn't resist. The water was murky and the bomby peak a bit outside. But it was good.....really good....and so was our weekend. I was joined by 3 brave souls on Saturday afternoon who, like me couldn't believe there was a wave this good, and couldn't believe that none of us had surfed there before, and we were all relieved that we could share it. 4 wave sets every 10 minutes 2-3ft overhead on the sets. It doesn't happen often but when it does......... I didn't take any photos this weekend, but this image is from a photoshoot I did with my pals at Plate Lunch the day before.

This morning I made myself a Latte. Coffee from Maui Coffee Roasters, fresh ground, brewed with my ever faithful Aeropress.

Enjoy your Monday, and try to get some work done. The weekend begins in 4 1/2 days.
